The St. Louise de Marillac Drama Program offers experiences in many aspects of theater arts including auditioning, acting, singing, choreography, make-up, costuming, and technical aspects such as set design and construction, sound, and lighting with additional stage crew opportunities for run crew, props, and prompting.
We believe in bringing performers and crew together to build a positive community where we express ourselves in words, voice, actions, and creativity. Encouragement is the backbone of our mission for this program, as we grow individually and collectively during the production of a show.
FALL PLAY
The fall play is for students in grades six through eight. After auditions in mid-September, rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-4:45 pm in the gym until our performances in mid-November. During our final week of tech week, we add in our stage crew from the 7th and 8th grades.
A play focuses on acting, character development, blocking, and creating a cohesive performance. Although many of our play performers love musicals as well, this is a great avenue for someone who prefers to act rather than sing.
SPRING MUSICAL
The spring musical is held annually in late March or April and is open to students in grades six through eight. Each musical cast will have principal and ensemble performers. Principal characters have individual speaking and singing parts, while ensemble actors perform together as a chorus. When possible, we open the ensemble roles to include and audition 4th and 5th graders.
Auditions are typically at the beginning of December or January and rehearsals run on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school through our production from 3:00-4:45 pm in the gym. During our last two weeks of rehearsals, we have tech weeks, where we will add our tech and stage crew composed of 7th and 8th graders.
A musical is a larger scale production with a more detailed set and longer rehearsal period. Our actors will sing, dance, and perform whether their part is in the main cast or the ensemble. We value every performer and crew member, as the show requires everyone in the community to do their best in their role.
